Wow I don't remember that visit with my parents at all! I do remember the van trip from Eugene to winter solstice though. I am not sure which of the two trips I was on though. I remember passing through New Orleans at the wee hours of the morning. It was completely deserted and very eerie, as if we were back in time.

I would love to see more pictures but the link was not there.

Thank you for the wonderful story and pictures.

In 1972, I moved to DC from the Buffalo NY ashram in the fall. The decision was made to close the Golden Temple Conscious Cookery for Winter Solstice (the last time we did that) and everyone got to go.

My standout memories from that Solstice are these: a whole group of us shaktis having washed our hair one morning, sitting around chatting together in the Florida sun, slowly combing out all those beautiful locks and drying them in the sun as Yogiji had taught should be done.

And: many of us received spiritual names that Solstice, and one who did was Janet, married to Peter Singh, who had become Sat Peter Singh. In part because we knew a woman, Jot Kaur, whose husband received the name Jot Singh, Janet walked around in a panic for days in advance of asking for her name saying "I just KNOW he's going to name me Peter, I just KNOW it!!" - and, sure enough, when she went to see Yogiji for her name, she came out in a daze afterward telling us she was Sat Peter Kaur. :-) ...showing the power of one's words, I think!

What a delight! Thank you for recording and sharing a part of our early history.

Do not see the link for more photos which I'd love to see.

Also would you please send me a copy of photo of Sat Kirpal S, Sarab Shakti K and myself.

You're a wonderful writer -- how lucky we are.
Love, Sat Kirpal Kaur
