Fire

Loches in the late ‘70’s – hot, humid, French August when the sun goes to sleep at 9:30 PM. There are about one hundred people from at least seven different countries sharing a hippy/3HO camp at the Yoga Festival. It is 10 PM and finally we can see the first stars in the precious darkness. The fire can be started now. Soon majestic flames are reaching the amazing sweet summer sky.
Guru Dass Kaur is in great physical shape thanks to her aerobic/yoga discipline and she is in an even higher spirit! She grabs me and Gyan Kaur and other girls, leading us in an animated dance of jumps and runs around the hot, wide fire. All there is are smiling faces and cries of excitement and joy accompanied by the beat of a few drums.
I look at the photo after more than 20 years and I can still feel the high energy that would not allow me to take me feet from the ground for more than a few seconds. The sound of the drums and the fast crackling of the fire were my inner rhythm, accompanied by the embracing company of that sisterhood. All this was given to me by my beloved Guru, a true gift that somehow I earned in this precious and lucky life.
